BTEC Qualifications

BTEC awards are becoming an ever more important element of the training we provide. BTEC Qualifications are real world certificates equivelant to GCSE Passes and add real value for Cadets who take them up. There are a growing number of awards that Cadets can work towards.

When you became a Cadet you took a big step in preparing for the future. You joined an organisation that teaches leadership, teamwork, communication and problem solving techniques - and in a fun and adventure filled environment.

The Cadet Vocational Qualification Organisation (CVQO) offers all Cadets over 16 the opportunity to earn, at no cost, a choice of three internationally recognised vocational qualifications that are respected by employers as well as institutes of higher education.

Whether your objective is higher education or improved opportunities in the workforce, a qualification through CVQO can give you the additional edge need to reach those goals! And best of all, it's FREE for Cadets!

BTEC in Aviation Studies (equivalent to 2 GCSE passes)

From 1 Jan 07, the old scheme BTEC Award in Aviation Studies will become the BTEC Certificate in Aviation Studies and valued at two GCSEs at grades A to C. This qualification recognises the training undertaken to complete First Class, Leading, Senior and Staff Cadet Part 1. Cadets who have passed Staff Cadet Part 1 are all eligible for this certificate.

BTEC First Diploma in Public Services (equivalent in 4 GCSE passes)

Cadets also now have the option, when they turn 16, of obtaining their BTEC First Diploma in Public Services.
This Diploma is equal to 4 GCSE passes (A pass is regarded as Grade A* to C), it is also equivilent to 4 Standard Grades (at levels 1 to 3) in Scotland.

The standard Cadet activities that count towards the qualification are:

- Pass your 1st class & leading exams
- Take part in Adventure training activities
- Give a presentation of at LEAST 5 mins in length
- Attend an NCO course

Not only do you have to do the academic studies and task outlined above, but you have to take part in a number of other cadet activities in order to complete the required modules, that include:

- The Public Services
- Public Service Skill
- Public Service Fitness
- Outdoor Activities & the Public Services
- Land Navigation with Map & Compass
- Expedition Skills

Grades of 'Pass','Merit' or 'Distinction' will be awarded for each unit and for the Diploma overall.

Finally, as well as all of that you will have to attend a wing run course in which the remaining tasks required for passing will be outlined.

In "real" terms, if you are an active cadet you are already doing AT LEAST 80% of what is required to get this!
