Each Cadet experienced flights in a winch-launched Viking glider.

The efforts were rewarded in the form of two medals and a cup. Sergeant and Cadet Furley won 1st place medals for back stroke and freestyle respectively. The third achievement of the Squadron was 'Overall Junior Boys', awarded for the most points amongst the category. The Junior Boys team was made up of Cadet Gunter, Green, Foster, Cousins and Taylor. The aforementioned Cadets then went on to represent the Wing at RAF Cosford.

A GWENT air cadet is preparing for the experience of a lifetime after being selected for an exchange programme to train with air cadets in America.

Joe Chesterman, 17, of Pontnewydd, has been with the 2308 Cwmbran Squadron Air Training Corps for the past five years where he has attained the rank of Flight Sergeant.

After applying last December to take part in the International Air Cadet Exchange programme, Joe was told he had been successful making him the first cadet in Torfaen to be selected for the programme.

This will see him stay with a host family in America for two weeks in July and attend the Air Training Corps Squadron there with the family’s son or daughter.

He will also have the chance to visit different states and sites including the White House.

The Croesyceiliog Comprehensive student said: “It has always been my dream since I was young to become a pilot and air cadets has opened up many doors for me in working towards my future career.

“I am very excited and proud to be part of this year’s exchange to America.”

Joe also thanked his squadron commander Flight Lieutenant Simon Furley and the air cadets for their support and help with funding.

In total we raised an enormous £217 for the charity, bringing our three year total to almost £1000!

Corporal Wheeler and Cadet Rowlands walked away with medals for their efforts in the under 15 Girls track events.

]]><![CDATA[Six Cadets Get Their Stripes]]>Tue, 10 Mar 2009 13:22:10 +0000http://www.2308atc.co.uk/1/post/2009/03/six-cadets-get-their-stripes.htmlBack in November, six Cadets applied for the rank of Corporal and were all then invited to attend the Squadrons JNCO selection process day on Sunday 8th March.

The process consisted of a drill demonstration, a presentation on a subject chosen by the assessors and an interview infront of the selection board made up of Sqn Ldr Organ, Flt Lt Furley, WO Gwillym and CWO Morgan.

All six cadets gave the process their best and exceeded the standard required for a JNCO, showing great potential. Because of this, all were promoted to Corporal.
